Flying only VFR, If I have my GPS on, I never get lost. ;)

If I don't have it on and I'm flying on VOR or DME, I only get lost half the time. ::)

If I'm not using any instuments... well, I'm not gonna say what happens. :-X Just don't expect me home in time for breakfast!

What I do is before I even take off is to study the area that I am going to go to by using the map. I try to make some kind of land mark so when I fly there I have a idea on where the airport is. I think they call it flight planning.
In the real world you would pull out your maps and do the same thing.
Nothing personnal here just trying to help please do not take offense  8)
But hey even I get lost every now & then & sometimes by the time atc tells you you should see the airport you are usually to high & to far left or right to make it on the first approach so I just fly a left or right approach going around if I have to then land on the second try.
It is either that or loose your lunch trying to get down low enough to land. ;D

For those of us who havent ever flown a real aircraft; is it essentially cheating to be using GPS for everything?

I mean I load a flight plan, put AP onto GPS then hey ho... no problemo...

Maybe I need to take the tutorials on DME, VOR navigation...

Landing at the worng airport tho... Would be funny. Not so many strips in the UK tho so its never that conjested, usually pretty obvious which ones which.

Sounds funny tho.
