Meshes Mess

Postby jordonj » Mon Aug 30, 2004 12:33 pm

I have downloading the 70M mesh as I go to new areas.  I recently heard that a Mesh from FSGenesis has been released as freeware.  Is it worth switching?  Will the 30M mesh tax my hardware harder than the 70M mesh?

It is hard to say I can not remember which way the LOD level of detail goes But as a rule of thumb The more detail the more it can effect your frame rates

jordanj,

I have payware FS Genesis meshes installed for New England and the Grand canyon (which I think are now freeware).  When I installed them they did not hit my frame rates at all.  But then my framerates are low anyway due to high visual quiality settings.  But see the machine specs on the trailer.

The countours are VERY much more accurate.  A massive difference in the general landscape.  My home now LOOKS like home  ;).

The smaller the distance between sample points (30 m vs. 70 m) the more realistic the terrain looks.  But the more data tha computer has to deal with.

Hope this helps.

best,

.............john
