low framerate in multiplayer

Postby gabel » Sat Aug 28, 2004 2:54 am

Hi all,
my problem is like this..when I connect to multiplayer ZONE,Roger Wilco+VATSIM),the framerates drops DRAMATICLY,from 25-30 in medium display settings to 12-13 when connected to mulitplayer. :-[
HOWEVER,when I swich the sound off the framerate goes back again to normal.
I tried sound addons like GPSW,cabin crew announcemets, air condition sound, and the framerate still is good.
The oroblem only happeds in multiplayer and with the default FS2004  sound.
NOTE..I have all the latest drivers for my computer
Win XP,Gforce4,512RAM,2.4G processor.

Thanks in Advance

Gabriel Weissman.

MP is quite system resource intensive.
The other good way to keep FPS up is to lower the resolution and detail of the display.
Alas this means not so impressive screenies :( but life is full of compromises....

Hmmm that seems like a rather large drop in FPS to me.  What aircraft were the other people flying? There are planes renowed for decreasing FPS online, i.e. the Maule.  Its a great plane but not very good for online use.

I did notice once if I kept the chat window box shut it helped the FPS and I would open it when I wanted to type.  Very strange that default sound is causing you this problem though.  Maybe a soundcard/dirver issue or a confliction with onboard sound?

There is a setting where you can turn down the sound quality too. Maybe try setting it at medium instead of High??

One thing that can really slow down multiplayer is if one of the participants in the session is flying a highly complex plane....let's say like the PMDG payware stuff.......... AND you also have it on your system.

What happens is that suddenly that PMDG moeld becoems one of the "AI" aircraft that the sime has to model.
