Landing Help Plz !!!!!!

Postby Ace_777 » Mon Aug 23, 2004 2:56 am

I have asked this question before but Im still having trouble with Landing using the GPS feature.

I put the ILS freq into the NAV1 and when ATC tell me to maintain blah blah blah until estabished on the localizer I turn NAV1. The plane starts to line-up. While its lining up I press the APP button to make the plane descend but the NAV1 button goes off. So then I press the NAV1 button but the APP goes off. You get the idea lol. What should I do ?

                       Thanks, Ace

First you input ILS frequency in NAV1 (the radio), then when (vectored on finals from ATC) on the struments you begin to see the ILS needles move away from the instruments' center you press APP on the autopilot.

When the autopilot estabilshes itself, first on the localizer and then on the glidescope, it automatically disengage the HDG and ALT hold, when it's time.

Of course you HAVE to make sure the NAV/GPS selector is on NAV, else the approach function will try to follow the GPS instead leading to... hairy results. ;D

It may happen, in some airports, that a ILS signal the localizer signal is a lot more powerful and far reaching than the glidescope's signal.

Budd,

You really should look it up beforehand.  That's why they call it a flight plan.  ;)

Couple of ways to do this.

If you go to the map view in fs2004 (or in the flight planner) and go to the airport in question..... and click on that on the map..... it brings up the data on the airport...... including all the radio frequencies for ATIS< ground, approach, tower, any VOR/NDB's and such, and also the ILS freqs for runways that have them.  Note these freqs down for use when setting up into landing configuration.

You can go online to one of the real world flight data reference sites and get the freqs from there.

Or you can purchase the books of terminal procedures  / approach plates that real world pilots use.

Hope this helps.

best,

That's strange, but not unheard of.

Case in point, take this for size (happens to me more times than I like it to).
