Looking for VOR/NDB database

Postby Skittles » Sun Aug 08, 2004 3:32 pm

Where can I find a complete text list of all VOR/NDBs utilized in FS2004?  The last list I complied was from FS98, 2000 or 2002. I don't remember which.

Why?  I have created a Pilots Handbook which allows me to quickly lookup any airport, VOR or NDB within the United States. Just today, I couldn't find BRK in my handbook, so I figure it's time to update.

Also, by utilizing Excel, I can inport/create a database which allows me to create a flight plan where all calculations are automatic.

I know, someone is going to tell me to use the inflight map or a flight planner available from the net, but the ones I've played with either give me too much, or not enough. I don't want to interrupt my flight looking up information.

Any ideas?

Thanks for your time,

Joe

Online resources written in html will not interrupt one's flight if opened in the kneeboard.

After all, that's what it's for.

We use the GNS500, Direct or GNS295 D>WPT functions to find fix data in FS9. After selecting either of these functions, simply insert the fix identifier and FS9's GPS will find and display the info from the database.

To use any of the online sites; i.e.,  airnav.com/   or  fscharts.com/  simply place these URLs in one of the kneeboard files (kneeboard_keys.htm) and it will be there for ready reference -- without interrupting the flight.

ps. after searching my FS9 files, I can't point to where these *.dat are located

Thanks for your response Bill, but that's not what I want. I'm re-building my printed pilot's handbook. Do you know if the sites you mentioned can provide me with a text list of the VORs & NDBs?

Thanks again,

Joe

Heya Skittles,

I second Bill's motion to go check out AirNav.com.  I'm a big fan as well.  It has all of the information about the airport.  Comm, Nav, ATIS, Tower and Ground frequencies, runway weight limitations, SIDs, STARS, and everything!!  Beginning in July 2004 it even includes a FAA approved Airport diagram chart showing the runways and taxiways (in PDF format--you have to have the Adobe reader to view these charts) !!  You can even print out the airport diagram as well as SIDs and STARS for future reference.  This website, unfortunately, only covers US airports and some US affiliated areas.

I created myself a new folder in the Main FS 2004 directory called Airport Information.  I have other folders within named by states (i.e. Alaska, Alabama, California, etc.).  I have created Internet Explorer links for these airports in these folders for future use.  That way I can just go click on one of these links and get the latest updated airport information.

Heya Bill,  are you aware of any websites that feature the same detailed airport information like AirNav.com for International Airports?

O.K., I appreciate people like to use data in different ways but as stated, i can't find the VOR, NDB, Fixes datafiles used by the GPS unit(s) in FS9.

There's several online sites to get the latest airarcs, one is http://www.fsbuild.com/ Thanks to Ernie for making this available. Schiratti.com (Navdata) is another.

I guess we all know if one clicks the DIRECT button then clicks the Inner Arrow (GPS500) the fix can be entered using the keyboard (too simple, I know)

The main online airport data site we use is fscharts.com

FSCharts now includes *.jpg IAPs, SID.DPs of realworld Jepp charts. Check it out and put the link in your kneeboard. It has ALL worldwide airports' data.

Check the weather ahead using http://adds.aviationweather.gov/metars/

hope this helps

p.s. we just completed Helsinki to Stanstead in default B734
