Question...changing defaults in FS9?

Postby Corbin » Thu Aug 05, 2004 3:58 pm

Does anyone know of a way to change the default settings in FS9?
For example:  Everytime I change to a different aircraft I have to re-map my joystick buttons....only the FS9 defaults remain (like button 1 (brakes)....button 5 (flaps down) etc.
Also many times when I create a new flight it seems to always start at the end of the runway with all engines up and running.  I have to call ATC, ask for taxi instructions while already on the active runway, and after permission to taxi is granted I have to request take off clearance.
My in game settings also seem to return to the "advanced" flight mode even when I reset everything.
Am I missing some settings options?   ???

I don't know about the joystick, becase I like the defaults, but I do know why you always start on the active runway, when you select your airport look down you'll see something that says active runway click that then scoll down you can select a parking spot of a gate to start from unless the airstip dosen't have any

ati0yz ~ Thank you for the information.  I have never noticed the "active runway"/ "parking spot" selection...will give it a try.   ;)

ALROT ~ What can I say......totaly awsome!!   :o  It looks like the throttle control cabinet and yoke cabinet are made out of plywood and metal?  Fantastic, how in the world did you ever get all of that to interface with your computer?  You should sell these or at least sell the plans....Now I know I'm a Newbe after seeing your set up!!  You certainly have my respect!   8)

Everytime I change to a different aircraft I have to re-map my joystick buttons....

Did you ever solve this? You should never have to re-map after every aircraft change. There may be a bigger underlying problem somewhere.

Skittles ~ No, I never did solve the re-mapping problem.  As you can see from my configuration I have a new Saitek Cyborg EVO Joystick that has been working great (no problems) its working well.  However when I change to another type of aircraft the program defaults my joystick back to the Microsoft defaults.  For example: My #10 button on the Saitek is set as "auto pilot master switch on/off" if I switch from the Mooney to another aircraft which has the auto pilot function I loose that setting and have to use the key board command or actualy select the approiate button with my mouse in order for it to work.  ???

I'm not familiar with your Saitek. Is it programmable? Maybe you could leave all the FS default settings and program the Saitek?

I've not heard of this problem until now, and I'll see what I can come up with from researching...

I've also posted the question at AVSIM:

Skittles ~ Guess what.....the Saitek is programable!  Duh! I never even thought of that....I checked on the net and found out that the EVO has its own button mapping program!   :D  I'm at work right now so when I get home for the weekend I will try to program it.

I will let you know if that works for me.....as someone else has said "Simviation to the rescue" once more......I really appreciate all of your help....thanks a bunch.   8)

I'll leave the post at AVSIM alone just in case...

Skittles ~ You fixed my problem....went right home and used the "Saitek smart technology programming software" that came with my controler.....and what do you know......everything works perfect... ;D..saved all the commands in its own little file....Saitek for FS9.  Thank you very much for all of your help!   :) :D ;D Now I'm going to install a new 256MB graphics card...that should really help.  8)
