This problem has me puzzled

Postby J41 » Fri Jun 11, 2004 5:53 pm

Hi Guys
Not sure what has happened I havent changed anything or adjusted anything but for some reason my aircraft seem to be doing what they want, when Im flying along say on approach all of a sudden it just pitches back violently then I correct it and 5-10secs later the same happens on any Aircraft I select.
Any ideas would be great.

Thanks

Sounds like you have a trim problem.  If your plane is pitching up then you need nose down pitch.  If the plane pitches down you need nose up trim.  Try the lesson (not sure which one) that covers trim. ;)

As a real life Pilot I know this and its just started this week I havent changed anything or added anything etc when the Autopilot is on it flying fine but if I have a look from the exterior view I see the elevators moving up and down very quickly even when Im not touching it.

Which joystick dya have

I had lots of problems like this affecting rudder for me, with a Logitech Wingman F/feedback stick. All down to a dry joint. See my sticky in the hardware section.

Most unlikely I'd have thought as it affects flight model. You're getting a control input from somewhere and I'm afraid I still think my suggestion is the most likely.

If it's not the controls themselves it's more likely to be down to the USB/gameport drivers than anything to do with graphics.

If you're using any plug in PCI cards eg for USB or Firewire - might want to try switching system off, removing them, cleaning connections (spit is good -really, I do it all the time with clients' kit so long as you dry thoroughly) and replacing them.

Easy to find out if it is your joystick. Turn it off and fly on keys.  If you dont get the pitching effect when flying level then you know its your joystick playin up.

Sounds like a good idea that Gixer has.my best guess is a imput device going bad if it just all of a suden started happening.but give Gixers advice a go and see what comes of that.

I had a similar problem with a Saetik joystick/throttle.  It turned out to be a dirty calibration adjustment on the joystick itself.  I could see the twitches in joystick calibration mode...

Not sure if it is your problem, but this was my experience.

Just an addition.  I have always found it very strange that when flying the autopilot, when the autopilot is switched off,  the sim returns to the trim/flight control postions that were present at the time the autopilot was switched on.  Autopilots adjust actual trim/controls, thus, the transition between autopilot and actual flight should be smooth, right?

Sounds like a calibration issue. My Saitek X45 occasionally needs to be recalibrated for rudder issues (rudder will automatically go back to its normal position when I try using the rudder)

Try recalibrating your flight controls through the sim.

I agree with the calibration.  Also try this.  Do you notice a FPS drop, or game performance drop when this happens?  It is possible something running in the background sucks up your CPU usage for a second, then next thing you know you catch a second of performance drop and everything goes goofy. So the slightest touch of the stick will multiply itself for that second, then next thing you know you are at a decend or accend rate of like 10000000 lol.  It's a possibility.  Just a thought from me.  Like I said, I have had this problem in the past.

And the usual.... clean the USB plug, or just take it out and plug it in again.
