ODD VOR problem

As I was approaching VOR ISD .. ... -.. 112.8 in South Dakota, I noticed that my instruments said I was going away from it while the map and my GPS clearly showed me going toward it.

Is this a bug?

At that time [1909] the chief engineer was almost always the chief test pilot as well. That had the fortunate result of eliminating poor engineering early in aviation.

You mean the bug in the compass...?

I fly VOR without flight planner (more interesting that way)
