Detailed clouds disappear

Postby stt » Thu May 13, 2004 8:15 am

Whenever I create a flight with real weather a grey, foggy sky appears and not the detailed clouds and blue skies. The weird thing is that when I open a Top Down window the detailed clouds appear!! Closing the window again makes them disappear. Has anyone ever experienced something like this? Can anyone help me solve the problem?
I appreciate your help!

what are your cloud settings  ???
In the settins menu  you will find a couple of sliders that effect how clouds are displayed  If these are not set right this might cause what you describe to happen 8)

Thanks for your quick reply!

I have tried every possible combination of settings.

I run a Dell Pentium 4, 3.2 with a Radeon 9800 Pro (latest drivers) and a Dell 18" Ultrasharp DVI TFT. I

n the past i didn't have any probs at all. I have disabled all the additional sceneries. The only add-ons that are still running is MyTraffic 2004, FSUIPC, and FSNavigator but they never caused any probs in the past.

I'm almost thinking of taking everything off and reinstall but somehow that doesn't sound very appealing... ::)

I know this is going to sound strange but move the FSUIPC.dll to a dummy folder out of fs2004 And see if your problem goes away.
The fsuipc.dll is in the module folder of fs9 by removing it you are basicaly turning it off.
I have read that there is a problem with cloud conflicts between fsuipc and fs2004 the newest relase is supposed to take care of this problem.
I do not use fsuipc and I have no problems with clouds I use fsconnect instead

Ok STT you got me stumped ::)
If all of your cloud settings are maxed out I do not know why you are having the problem. Is the top down view the only way you see them? What about spot view or while in the cockpit view press the "W" key twice.
If none of these work. Then I do not have a clue :(
I hope you do not have to uninstall & reinstall I will keep an eye on this post to see if you fix it.

This is not really a technical problem. When you open a top down window, the weather scenery for the outside world corresponds to the area covered by the map window. If its overcast outside your cockpit view, and you open the map window and broken clouds suddenly appear, flight simulator is just taking into account the larger area covered by the map window....zoom in and out of the map window, you'll see the weather outside the cockpit view correspond to that.

It's not quite a bug, just the way how the engine works.

Thanks for responding.
The weird thing is however that it doesn't happen when I use the default flight from Tacoma. When I switch to EHAM (part of add-on scenery NL2000) the fog appears. It disappears when I open a Top View window. When I go to a different part of the world after being at EHAM the fog is there too and I have to use the Top Down window again to fix it. I'm going to try and disable the add-on scenery and see what happens.
Thanks again,
Leo

I finally found what it was...

The Netherlands 2000 version 2.9 has a feature panel in which you can reset the altitude for this particular scenery, otherwise your AI aircraft sink into the ground.

Somehow this options caused the problem.

I will report this to the development team of this scenery and I sincerely hope they can fix this but. The scenery is stunning and I would hate not being able to use it anymore.

Thank you all for contributing!

Since I'm not a quitter I've been investigating more and I found out that the problems are caused by a bug in the original FS2004 Weather.dll

The solution can be found on:
http://ehrhardt.demon.nl/nedair/

Download the weather bug fix here and replace the original Weather.dll with this one and... Voila!
