Way too high in my opinion....
24 fps locked is the best.... ;D

Unless your friends machine can handle 50 fps with no stutters etc.  Then nothing is really too high.  I cannot imagine being able to run a game at 50 fps consistently with the graphic sliders maxed out. ;) ;D

I had mine set at 50fps, and was actually hitting it for a bit. Without clouds I was easily getting 40 fps, but clouds depending on how detailed and how many can sink my frame rates faster than cement mafia Nikes can make someone 'swim wit dah fishes'.

Everything maxed out I get 5 to 15 fps.

You're not going to see much difference between 25 and 50, so he might as well drop it a bit and save the computer some energy to be put towards other parts of the sim.
Great edit, Bob.

Television runs at about 25fps, the human eye couldn't detect above 30!
Setting it this high is wasting system resources, and unless you own a Cray-2 its a tad pointless ;)

Might be true but it was nice seeing it hit 50 FPS. I normally set mine at 26 fps

It's only a waste of resources if your friend is not running VFR photo scenery.  The speed at which these photo textures are loaded (not displayed) is related to frame rates.  When using such scenery I set mine 50+, or mostly unlimited.  It helps, though not a massive amount.

settings the fps to unlimited will only put excess strain on your cpu and graphics card thus reducing its life span..simple as

i have mine set at 25 fps
AMD athlon XP2800+ @2.34ghz
Epox 8RDA3G 400 fsb, 8x AGP
1024MB DDR400 PC3200
XFX 256MB FX5950 Ultra (oc 525/1.04)
40 gig maxtor 7200rpm
80 gig seagate baracuda 7200rpm
