It's been a long time, but does Catalina island have an airport? If not, you could still crashland there ;D

You can always make the trip in the grand caravan ;D
That way you can land in the ocean pretend to refuel then continue on. Just make sure to bring plenty of food as it will defintely take a while at that speed ;D You could even rest a bit before going on. 8)

There are three ways to fly to Hawaii realistically.

1.) Go up through Alaska and down the Aleutians, The Orient, and island hop through the Pacific.

2.) Fly east across the Atlantic, Europe, Asia and island hop through the Pacific.

3.) Fly a plane with the range to go from the US mainland to Hawaii non-stop.

Pretending to refuel every time you run out of fuel would be unrealistic. For a more realistic trip, take a floatplane and pack some sails ;D

I'm not sure if there are real world flights between these cities but you can try taking a non-stop flight from San-Diego to Hilo Intl there on the big island  8) Or you can take a floatplane, fly up the west coast onto the Aluetian Islands, then when you get to Atka fly down to Midway, then onto Honolulu. That's what I did on part of the Pacific crossing on my world tour in a floatplane  ;D

You can alway edit the aircarft.cfg and stick some aux tanks on board.  When pilots ferry aircraft long distances they will have aux tanks put in to give them the range to get the aircraft accross the worlds oceans. ;D

The Aleutian route (Alaska Peninsula) is twice as far as flying direct Looking at http://www.indo.com/distance/index.html one finds it's 2455sm from KLAX to PHTO (Hilo) and 2782sm PANC (Anchorage) to PHNL (Honolulu)

If your wondering about the Aluetian Islands I'm not sure if the runway can support a large jet...the biggest plane I've landed at was at Atka in a Learjet. But you can definitley land the heavies at KLAX, PHNL, PANC, and Hilo  ;)
