Thrust reverser question

Just really getting into flying jets and cannot figure out the thrust reversers. I have a saitek x45. Is there a way that I can set the throttle to make a small part of the movement to controll the reversers? Sorry if this is hard to understand.

Knightstryker,

This is an "I think" reply..........

I THINK that if you go to the joystick calibration you can set the idle throttle so that it is "zeroed" at a physical setting higher than the actual bottom of the travel of the throttle control.  Then when you turn it down past that level... the value goes negative.... and the reversers cut in.

Not positive of that... but I think so.

I also have a Saitek X45. Great stick, not cheap though.
A poet, A virtual Pilot, and a member of Civil Air Patrol. Now if only.....

Current ride, a 1972 Honda CT70 with a 3-speed transmition w/ and automatic clutch. So far i've gotten it to do 40mph.

Did u manage to work it out? I have the X45, apart from the fact the return spring is harsh I love it :)

Would like to do the same as you, been looking at the FSUIPC settings to see if that will do it.

Sorry for the late update.
Tried everything I could to get the throttle to work as a reverser but could not get it to work.
The F2 key opperates the thrust reversers so that will have to work for now until one of you nice people send me a fancy goflight throttle quadrant  ;D

Back when I ran FS8, I was told you could set your throttle up to do this on the X-45 with the use of the now payware FSUIPC.  I tried it, but couldn't figure it out.  If you happen to have it though, you may be able to do it.  Good luck.


PS...not to turn this into another X-45 v. Thrustmaster debate, but I personally LOVE the X-45.

Hey guys, As to, did you pay over $90, i am not compleatly sure, but probably somewear around that. But you got to remember I got it when it was a REALLU new stick. I had gotten its predicessor for x-mas (right before it stopped being produced, and right around the time of FS2002 comming out) so i ended up getting the X-45 to replace it, and then got a new computer to use it (windows 95 didnt seem to like it). But now I Ablsolutly love the thing, i dont even now if i have all the buttons assigned, there are just that many! AS to the trust reverser problems, something i just thought of, there is that profile editor thing (hopefully you have it installed). What you might be able to do it set up one of your buttons so that when it is pressed it is like hitting the F2 key. it wont be a movement of the throttle but you wont have to take your hands of the controls to use it.

I'm thinking of getting an X45 and would like to know: What do you use the 2nd and 3rd hat switches for? and is the rudder control easy to use? (I.e. not having to disjoint my fingers to jam the rudder to the left or right quickly)

The rudder control is ridiculously easy.  It is located on the underside of the throttle, so your index and middle fingers rest on the rocker switch.  99% of the time I use it without even thinking about it.

As for the hat switches, I use one for my view change.  In other words, when I wanna look left, I point it to the left.  The other one I rarely use, I don't even know what (if anything) I've got assigned there.  There are so many buttons, I know I've got a bunch of blanks.

My X45 cost less than my Logitech FF joystick and the Logitech never did work right. Haven't had a bit of trouble out of the X45.

For the thrust reversers I use the same method Skittles mentions. I have the large lighted button on the throttle set for thrust reverse and the little button on the throttle for speed brakes.


CHOMP_ROCK
The rudder is a rocker switch underneath the throttle handle. You can also use the top rotary on the throttle as a rudder. I use that a lot because I do a lot of bush flying which means I often don't have much choice of runways. With the rotary rudder I can dial in some rudder in a crosswind approach and not have to constantly hold pressure on the rocker.

I have the second hat switch for my flaps to extend them or retract them fully. The Fire A and Fire B are incremental flaps. The third hat switch is set up to aim my landing lights which I use for helicopter flying. Makes the landing lights just like a movable search light.
