Hi Guys

Interesting reading. Just thot I'd throw in my two cents
also. I really hate hate hate those r idiculous Garmon
GPS units. I can live with the fs2002 GPS gauges. I run
fs2002 pro on my second drive but use mainly fs2004
even tho it's probably the "flakiest" fliight simulator yet
especially in XP.
Bueno; If you really want a decent GPS download all the
Alain Capt FS98 gps configurations. There's a fella in
Alaska (I think) who has created a fs2002 database for
these units. I really really like these gps units. They are
versatile in style and colour and they fit in a small space
on most panels or you can install it as a 2nd, 3rd, 4th
window etc. I make a lot of my own airports iin places
were I want them and it's so simple to add them to the
database mentioned above. It's all in english and only
the format really matters.
Alain Capts units run off your autopilot's heading function.
You simply activate the GPS which in turn activates the
AP heading and flys you to your destination. Even if
your a/c doesn't have an AP you can still use the GPS as
a guide but you gotta control the heading manually.
I've changed all my a/c (450) except for the defaults
to Alain Capts stuff and I couldn't be more pleased. If
you're adventurous - give it a shot!
Read the instructions carefully.

I agree with the above. The Alain Capt stuff always has been brilliant and serious simmers will love it.

Trouble is unless you want to activate the Flight Planner and then write down the data from it, you really need the charts for your planned flight* in order to use it properly as you need to obtain the VORs etc that you will be using plus where you might want to create virtual waypoints en route.

You can't really just 'jump in and fly'

*edit

sorry, that's for the sort of flights I do which are almost all longish distance in heavies.
