2004 Networking - Does it work good?

Postby Apollo43 » Wed Mar 31, 2004 11:40 am

I'm happy with FS2000 but my nephew just bought FS2004 and wants to fly with me using the networking feature of FS2004.  I will be happy to buy it if this feature works well without a lot of problems.  I'd like to hear from anyone who has tried this feature or who has heard about how well it works.

Thanks

yeah all depends on connection speed and how far away your nephew is.....you should be ok if you both have 512 kbps connection or higher but may struggle on 56k modems unless it is only within a few miles of each other u should be ok. fs2004 needs quite a fast machine to run so bear that in mind. i havent had any problems yet with the multiplayer

hope this helps, daz

I've only had experience with Local Area networks inside my home as I'm avoiding using the 56K for fear of how slow it may be...

but I can't comment since I haven't tried it yet..;-)

Apollo, it's not clear what you're talking about. If you mean flying in Multiplayer on the Zone or over the net, I would say don't bother unless you have a high speed connection. I also found that working behind a router with a firewall I couldn't connect with FS02 but had no problem with 04. I connected with 02 direct via a DSL modem but immediately picked up a virus.

Unless you've flown on the Zone in multiplayer I wouldn't bother setting up a home network to do the job as it's not that simple (OK, now someone will come back and say yes it is, their Granny did it last year no problem

Thanks for the responses.  I am planning on keeping my FS2002 and running a host program called FSHost on a 2.8 gig PC and not using the zone.  I am running on DSL behind a router but will remove the router during the game.  My nephew is on Cable Modem running a 3.2 gig PC with FS2004. Accoring to the folks at FSHost this should work ok.  I agree though that it's probably going to be a bear to set up the FShost program but I'd like to give it a try.
