Adding Aircraft Traffic, airport gates, etc, to your Sim - AFCAD, TTools, Project AI, AI Aircraft, etc

Hi. Option 3 would be to remove them from the Select Aircraft menu.

Download AirEd from the Utilities section. http://www.simviation.com/fsutilities_gen2.htm

Open the AIR files of your AI aircraft in AirEd & change the Aircraft Type from 0 to 2.

To remove an AI aircraft from the main menu all you have to
do is remove the 'panel' folder.

No panel folder, no menu entry....

Okay guys. In the event that I did something wrong when I downloaded Air Ed (and with my level of tech expertise, that's more than just possible), I'm going to uninstall and re-install it and see if that makes any difference. As Arnie S. said "I'll be back".

AirEd is a standalone application. It will work from any location on your PC. Just extract the zipfile & use it from there. You don't have to install anything.

True for FSX.....not true for FS2004.

Reading thru JimmyJohn's other posts...looks like he's using FS2004.

At that time [1909] the chief engineer was almost always the chief test pilot as well. That had the fortunate result of eliminating poor engineering early in aviation.

As I have found that Adobe did indeed install Adobe Air when I last upgraded the program, I am contacting them to ascertain the need to have this little **** disturber and what the repercussions are if I uninstall it. Stay tuned.

I would simply uninstall it like me.* I have no idea what it's for & I doubt very much that I will ever need it. However, leaving it shouldn't affect anything. You will still be able to edit AIR files with AirEd.

*PS. You can always reinstall it if you find you need it.

Well, Hagar, I'll give Adobe the courtesy of a couple of days to reply before I decide to put an end to this venture.

I get the feeling you might be wasting your time. You could at least try opening those AIR files in AirEd as we've tried to explain to you.

I'll go through it once more. Download AirEd here ---> http://www.simviation.com/fsutilities_gen2.htm

The file is named aired.zip. Extract aired.zip to anywhere you like on your PC. It will work from any location including your Desktop. Open the extracted folder & run the utility by double-clicking AirEd.exe. Then click File/Open & navigate to the AIR file you wish to open in the usual way.

You could also try commoner's tip & click Special. Then select the "Set AirEd for AIR files" option.

Believe me, Hagar, I have tried both methods. I can get to the AIR file icon (it's brown) and click on it to get the listing for the aircraft. I have ensured it's the proper aircraft. I change the "Aircraft type" from "0" to "2", and then I select "Save". But when I open FS9, the Aircraft are still there as before, and when I go back into AirEd to check the Aircraft type again, it registers "0" rather than reflect the change I made to "2". So, I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I do know I'm getting frustrated with it.

hmm... thats unusual, you say you are able to edit them and yet they are still showing as little brown parcels which sounds to me like they are not affilliated to aired but rather still to adobe installer.
When you open the files to edit, is it aired that opens them up?

Yes, they are opened in AirEd. By the way, when I checked out Adobe Air, I noticed they use the terminology ".air" in a similar manner as does FS9 which is why I believe it is interfering with FS9. And the little brown box in the Aircraft folder is designated as an "installer package" which further makes me feel it is somehow connected to the Adobe installer. Whatever the case, I'll live with for the time being.  Thanks to everyone for all your help. If nothing else, communicating with other FS enthusiasts is a valuable learning experience.

When you changed the Aircraft Type from 0 to 2 did you press the Enter key to register the change before saving the file? I suspect not doing this is the cause of your problem.

Adobe chose the AIR file extension for their new utility possibly without realising it was already in use by MSFS. Adobe AIR automatically associates itself with all files with the .air extension when you install it. This changes the .air file icons to that little brown package & the file type to Installer Package.* This does not prevent them being opened or used by other software like AirEd & FS itself.

*Unlike most other software there is no option not to do it so the only way to change it back is to uninstall Adobe AIR.
