That's very odd. I happened to try this on a new installation of FS9. I now have a backup copy of Traffic030528.bgl named traffic030528.ORIGINAL. I assume that TTools did this automatically when recompiling it.

...mmm...I have one of those ORIGINAL files....I always thought that when I changed the three text files and recompiled them. TTools backed up the one I had.......unsure about that...just my thoughts........

Actually the reason for this topic: to get rid of the "silly" airlines by deleting them all seems rather a negative thing to do.........for all those AI flying to all destinations in the world to be deleted seems to me rather a shame....

I put "proper" aircraft in their place....you know; like AA, SWISS, BA....etc, etc.......... 8-)

Seemed like a better idea to me ...commoner ;)

My point is that callump has no files with the traffic030528 prefix in the appropriate location. I have two.

That must involve a lot of work. It's fine if you have the time & knowledge. I assume that most people replace the default generic flight plans with realistic ones from the various AI packages from PAI, WOAI etc.

Did you do a minimised install of FS2004 ?
The default traffic bgl isn't installed them but will be loaded from disc 4 when you start FS

lol..well Hagar I have the time (retired) and just simply acquired the knowledge by trial and error I suppose............

I love fiddling around in the filesof FS9: even more than flying at times, I am not ashamed to admit  ;D...I suspect you do a fair amount of that sort of thing too.....that's maybe why you, like one or two more I could name can often come up with answers to others problems. :-/

The three files created by decompiling the traffic blg offer great scope for "customising" the AI traffic.....adding new airports:aircraft and flightplans etc..........the PAI text files can similarly be changed to "improve" the experience........... ::)

It's all about having fun ...whatever dings your donger ...commoner ;)

That's something I hadn't thought of. However, it's not possible to modify files on the CD.

I'm also retired & was always more interested in tweaking & fiddling than "flying". That's how I first got involved with this forum. I used to get a lot fun out of playing with TTools & AFCAD but not everyone feels the same way. It would be a massive task for one person to create accurate flight plans (& the AI aircraft to fly them) for major airlines covering the whole world. That's where the specialists like PAI & WOAI come in. The snag being that adding all these new aircraft & flight plans to the existing default generic ones overloads the airports they operate from. If you have the knowledge it's possible to modify these to your own requirements which is what callump is doing.

By far the easiest way to start is to replace the textures of the default aircraft with some for real life airlines. Then modify some of the generic flight plans in the areas you fly from with realistic ones for your local area.  This is how I got started with the mysteries of TTools back in the days of FS2002. Being more interested in vintage light aircraft I created an airstrip near me & added realistic traffic to it. I also created my own AI aircraft if none were available. This was a lot of fun but I lost the lot after my HD burned out. I know I should have backed it up but I lost a lot of my enthusiasm after that. :'(

No, i caried out a full install.

commoner, your idea about changing the default aircraft to real world textures would have been very usefull had Hagars solution not worked, thanks :)

Unfortunately i am mostly lost in the world of AFCADs and TTOOLS and for this reason, the likes of PAI, WOAI are sent from god as far as im concerned ;)

But whats brilliant is that when the likes of me, who want their FS "game" to be tweaked to perfection, but are not completely sure what they're doing, the fantastic members of SimV are all helping each other back on the horse after they've fallen off ;)

Yes, changing the paint jobs is one simple way to get rid if the funny airlines........I found the nicest way was to get some good AI aircraft (got all mine from Aardvark) and substitute those..........keeping the whole default flightplans as it comes is IMO a good idea........deleting those en bloc leaves a rather big black hole to file from other sources :-/

....lots of ways to skin a cat...(SORRY cat lovers...just an old saying ;))
