Newbie: AFCAD 2.21 - Holding Point Names

Postby sr71_sr71 » Wed Apr 21, 2004 3:47 am

Hi Folks.

I am checking out AFCAD for the first time.

Does anyone know if AFCAD can handle holding points named as "A1" and "A2" for the same runway? Or airport? I am initialy getting these from the real world airport that I am altering within FS2004.

Thanks.

David.

Are you refering to hold short nodes in AFCAD?

Erm, yes I think so. Very very new to AFCAD - sorry.

I think they are the red nodes - right?

When I fly (for real), I get told to hold at "alpha one", or alpha two, depending on the direction etc.

It is this that I am trying to amend in AFCAD for my local airport.

Isn't there only one hold short point at real aiports where the taxiway joins the runway? Since I don't fly for real correct me if I'm wrong.

By directon do you mean that the taxiway joins the runway some where in the middle and that you can take off in eather direction?

Or are we talking about two defferant taxiways, if this is the case then AFCAD will let you (wants) a hold short node at each taxiway.

Don't forget that the node has to be with in 255 ft of the runway center line.

Hi.

Maybe I am not being clear.

Roughly. The hold short points for the airport/runway I work from (EGMH) has the following:

one end: "alpha one"
middle: "bravo two"
middle: "charlie two"
middle: "echo two"
other end: "alhpa two"

There are others, but they are on the taxiways themselves.

I can see that I can add/alter them, but cannot see how to assign the names (as above)? Where can I assign a hold short point the name of "alpha one"? Or does it not work like that in AFCAD or FS2004?

I just looked at my airport and the properties of the nodes and there isn't anyway that I can see that will let you do this. Sorry.

Hi.

I had a email back from Lee Swordy, who wrote:

"Neither FS2004 nor AFCAD allow 'points' to have designators, you can only give designators to taxiway links -- the lines between taxiway points (nodes).  If you are referring to naming taxiway links, you can give a designator any combination of letters and numbers up to 8 characters with AFCAD and FS2004 will accept it.  If the designator you need doesn't already exist in the designator list then type it into the designator edit box on the toolbar and press Enter to create a new one."

I am thinking that I will create a short taxiway node very close to the hold short point, and name this as above. Sounds like this should work.
