AFCAD vs. FSUIPC

Postby Jason Terry » Sat Aug 23, 2003 11:06 am

I am new to AFCAD and all things AI related, I am using version 1.4 to add ATC (and hopefully AI) to an FS2002 airport I built and in section 6 of the AFCAD help files it says you can use FSUIPC to work with a "link" to FS.

It does not seem to work that way at all, I get an error message whenever I load them at the same time, I am using FSUIPC 3.04 (newest version) and it says something in the readme about an "access key" that AFCAD did not mention in it's help file.

Is there a problem with the new FSUIPC 3.04 that AFCAD 1.4 wasn't designed for?

Ace,

A couple of things to check for:

1. Is the FSUIPC.dll file that you are referring to located in the proper directory, C:/Program Files/Microsoft games/fs2002/Modules?

2. If it is in the proper directory, check to make sure there aren't any other files by that name in your Modules directory.

Well, to my knowledge I haven't had FSUIPC before but, it may have been installed automatically with all the Battle of the Airlines stuff we were working on earlier this year.  I will check.

Secondly, my FS directory is C:\FS2002, and I moved the *.dll to C:\FS2002\modules, I assume this makes no real difference to FSUIPC right?

FSUIPC keeps promting me for a registration for the program I want to use with it, which is why I asked if AFCAD requires and older version of FSUIPC.  Any thoughts on the registration thing?

Hmmmmmm.

Every version of FSUIPC I have dealt with has instructed me to install it to the Modules directory as indicated in my last post.  I'll be interested to know if placing it there will solve your problem and allow the programs to run simultaneously.

I'm unclear about the registration question..........is the prompt asking you register the product on-line?  You might have to do something to that effect for the program to run(?) :-/

No Joy... :(

I installed it to the C:\program files\.\.\etc. directory and FS didn't even acknowledge that FSUIPC was installed, nor did AFCAD.  I think maybe I should try an older version of FSUIPC, this one keeps asking me for a registration.  I have 3.05 that I got from http://www.schiratti.com/dowson.html as it says in the AFCAD help files, but this version keeps asking for registration.  I think maybe the AFCAD help was written based on an older version that didn't require registering.

Ace,

I just downloaded version 3.05 and looked at the User's Guide which is included in the zip file.

Per the opening section, one thing I did not suggest that you might want to check is to make sure you don't have an old FSUIPC.ini file in your Modules folder.

AFCAD utilized FSUIPC to link to FS2002 so you could jump back and forth between the two.  You could be in FS2002 and slew the aircraft and using hotkeys you could locate points that AFCAD would use.  Then you could jump back to AFCAD and modify it as needed.

The new FSUIPC 3.X has changed to a registration basis and the applications that use it must also have a registration to work.

Since you are still using FS2002, you need to use an older version of FSUIPC, I think the last version was 1.95 or 1.96.  That should fix the problem with the call for a registration.
