FPS-Friendly clouds...??

Postby cspyro21 » Wed Apr 19, 2006 8:28 am

Hi all,
Recently I've found that the default FS clouds, when I've set it to vercat weather, have decided to absolutely destroy all hope of having moderate framerates (drops to about 3-6 FPS :'()
I have the cloud detail pretty minimal, any more reduction and the clouds...don't look like clouds ;D

I was wondering if anyone knew of a method to make the default clouds anymore FPS friendly, or if anyone knew of new clouds which wou ld be more FPS friendly than the default....I must say it would be nice to get 10-12 FPS with overcast clouds :D

Thanks to all who offer help! :)

Have you tried FSSkyworld? .......... I'm fairly sure that it replaces most of the cloud set with more FR friendly ones.

Change your cloud textures to DXT3...That will minimize FPS...

As far as 3D clouds are concerned, they really are 2D clouds that turn towards the user aircraft... ;)

Hey there Ashar (and those willing to help),
I just saved cumulus01 and cumulus02.BMP as a DXT3 image, and FS9 didn't want to load up a flight including cumulus clouds.....I experimented a bit more a lot more and I found that it only wanted to load up extended BMP images.....so right now cumulus01 and 02 are saved as a 32-bit bitmap (as they normally are).....I've tried most things, but to no prevail...... anyone got any tips? ???

P.S. Soui, how can I go about choosing light or heavy clouds with FSSkyworld? Check my thread here.....

Very baffled... ???
