Have you ever tried to make an autopilot yourself?
And what is it that actually doesn't work?
The gauges you click at or the autopilot itself?

If the last is the case, try to look at the autopilot section in the Aircraft.cfg of your 787.
- If it doesn't even exist, you know why it didn't work.
- If it does, you can look at the Microsoft's "Aircraft Container" SDK for FS
(the one for fs9 is downloadable freeware, the fsx one can only be found at the Deluxe/Pro Edition's DVD)

Otherwise the gauges are maybe not setup correctly.
You can configure them with payware software like Abacus "Custom Panel Designer" (CPD), or with "FS Panel Studio", which I find is better.
There is perhaps also free-ware to get this job done. Hand-editing the gauges-settings in panel.cfg and the other files is not a good and easy way.
