Cessna 206 Bushmod

What aircraft have you been unable to find after a long search? There may be an answer!

Cessna 206 Bushmod

Postby Jakemaster » Wed Dec 07, 2005 6:57 pm

I have seen that people in the real world modify cessnas, especially 206s, to be more powerful for bush flying.  I want to change the parameters for the Cessna 206 that I have for FS, but I dont know what I should change or what I should change it to.

Any help?  Skilmigund? ;)

I'm not one to do modding of FS aircraft, but yes, 206's are always modded in Alaska.

Vortex Generators for shorter take-off and landings.
Wingtip extensions are not uncommon, with the leading edge mod.
Larger tires all the way around for better soft field performance.
Replacement of the Continental IO-520 with a more powerfull Continental IO-550. (Helped do one of these earlier this month)
Gut the interior of most things to decrease weight.
Gravel deflectors behind the wheels to keep the paint shiny.

Many other small mods are done, such as drooping ailerons and such, the list is LONG.

For payware, Carenado has an EXCELLENT 206.

Well, I took the french one and modded it to make it fly like a turbo stationair.  It flies faster, gets up quicker, and lands short field (which the 206 does anyways).   I tried to get rid of the wheel pants, but once again I cant get the transparency to work.

Do they ever change avionics?  I swiched the Attitude indicator to the Caravan one just because I dont like the cessna 182 attitude indicator.

Oh yeah they change avionics. Try a glass cockpit! I've never seen a Bush plane with a glass cockpit, but they do sometimes upgrade equipment after if fails.

Yeah, wheel pants just get broken in the Bush. Either that, or a rock gets stuck in it, and screws up your tires or wheels. Plus, they add weight (only like 6-10 pounds though).

Thanks for pointing out this aircraft, I'll definately download it when my comp works again. I've done a little .air and .cfg tweeking in the past, I'll see if there is anything I can do for this plane when I have it. ;)

Are you insinuating that Max Gross Weight means something?

Alaska way of weight and balance on a 206:
Load it until the aircraft's tail is 5-6 inches from the ground. Push on tail with forefinger. If you are able to push it down, the aircraft is aft CG.

Alaska way of weight and balance on a 207:
Method 'A': Load the aircraft until the tail drops to the ground. Get in the aircraft. If the aircraft drops back onto the nose, it is within w&b.
Method 'B': With all cargo and people loaded, the tail should be about 4-6 inches from the ground. Push on tail with forefinger, if tail moves to ground and comes back up, you are within w&b.

I might add that it is legal to load the aircraft 10% over standard gross weight in Alaska, and it is rather common to go beyond that. Not that I've ever done such a thing...

BTW, you didn't hear this from me.
