Most of the flightsim model builders are, to a certain extent, budding aviation historians.
Those who model "newer" planes can probably quote chapter and verse on the latest avionics, armaments, capabilities, of the latest B777, etc.
To those that like the classics, the Hughes Spruce Goose was a plane that came in "too late". The War spelled the death knell for long distance flying boats, just as it gave rise to the long-distance land plane transports (DC-4, Constellation, etc.). Even Martin's excellent Mars series only had limited service - fortunately one still flies, as an airborne fire fighter.
Hughes could have developed the Spruce Goose, but I believe that even he realized that the day of the super-flying boat was over.
