MiG-28

What aircraft have you been unable to find after a long search? There may be an answer!

MiG-28

Hey,

I've been looking for a nice MiG-28, like the ones in Top Gun.  No the paint doesn't have to be the same, but I'm just looking for a download.

If a MiG-28 is unavailable, a F-5 would be good, as they are nearly the same.

The MiG-28s in Top Gun are F-5s...D models to be precise. :)

You might be able to find a paint scheme for any of the popular F-5 or T-38 packages.

You seem pretty positive, but I was almost sure due to the longer nose.  I have found some nice F-5s, so thanks for the help! ;D

I was under the impression that the MiG in Top Gun was fictional...

The designation was fictional, but the aircraft certainly was either a T-38 or two seat F-5. From the nose profile, it does look like an F5 - it has a pointed nose, and I think the 38s have a rounded nose. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Yes the Mig-28 was a figment of the Top Gun producers imagination, and yes, they are F-5s...

For some reason, in 1986 the Soviet Air Force was being rather unco-operative when it came to western film making! ;) ;D (and the jet warbird movement hadn't quite taken off, particularly the more potent types such as the Mig-17 and 21...)

"So you were in a 4G, negative dive, inverted over a MiG-28?"

"I actually got a nice polaroid of it if you want to see it"
-yeah, just happened to have a camera in the cockpit

I coulda sworn while watching it though, both planes, even though they weren't ACTUALLY that close, were going perfectly straight, not diving.

And thanx for the suggestions in addons!

Don't forget to go and buy that special edition topgun DVD with all the extras on how they made it - the aerial sequences and stuff are probably the best ever, and a tribute to the F-14 - especially now its in its twilight years.

Not well publized, but cameras in fighter cockpits were pretty much standard during the Cold War years. They served to document encounters with opposition aircraft types and were anxiously awaited by the Intel types when you landed.

You could tell a lot by checking for modifications, maintenance activity, etc...

I feel the need, the need for SPEED!
