Batwing from 1989 Batman Movie w/ Micheal Keaton

What aircraft have you been unable to find after a long search? There may be an answer!

Batwing from 1989 Batman Movie w/ Micheal Keaton

Postby iggy0075 » Mon Apr 11, 2005 11:22 am

Does anyone know where I can find this aircraft to fly in FS9.   I think this would be a great plane to fly.  Pull up from a secluded runway at night.  Raise the landing gear, and fly as high up as possible to create the famus sillouete on the moon.  And drop back towards earth.  Imagine the possiblities.  The closest thing I can find is the Stealth Bomber.

So if anyone could let me know if one is available, or if you where willing to design one it would be awesome.

THANKS,

I made a Batwing in Lightwave for an animation that I did. If I knew how to convert it to be able to fly in FS9, I would do it in a heartbeat. I have a still image of the one I made, but I don't know how to post images yet.

Can Lightwave export as an "X" file?

If so then the MS tool that works with GMax will make it a FS model.

Hmmm interesting, I'll have to check into that.
If it does, I will be working hard on converting it!!!  ;D

Lightwave can probably export in DXF format.  If so then GMAX can import the files.

That's how I make my models.  Build 'em in Imagine, export as DXF part by part, import into GMAX, texturing as I go...

I gave up on the Batwing - hated it.

The model I built won't do a straight export to DXF, I am in the process of converting it (in parts) to 3DS format, then importing into Gmax.

I already have the wings, canopy, weapon platform, and part of the main fuslage imported into gmax.

What I will need to research, is how to convert it to be able to use in FS9.1

Gnome, I don't blame you for giving up, it is an extremely difficult model to make, because of the extreme angles. It took me MONTHS to model it in Lightwave.

Once it's in GMAX them MakeMdl will make it compatible with FS.

It was all those scallops that bugged me.  I found it impossible to have it look good and keep the poly count down.  :-(

'Course, someone with more skill might not have that problem...  ;-)

Thanks for the info Gnome.
I don't really know about the skill part, I think it more comes down to patience. It may be that you can't keep the poly count down with this aircraft.

Here are a couple of screen shots of the Batwing I made in Lightwave. taken from the DVD I made.
