Project Airbus has a pretty good A320 out there.  It has a VC, but I have never tried it in FS2004.  Their website is http://www.avsim.com/projectairbus.  It has an authentic sound package and is fairly high quality.

iFDG is awesome, screw a VC. I gaurantee, no matter what PC you have, it will slow ya down. AMAZING looking airplane. And you can see the wings from the cockpit, something I have always liked. And it flys right. I'm certified in the A-320 and the iFDG version flys exactly how the real bird does if you set your controls right (then again anything flys right if you set up the controls correctly). Just you need a lefty joystick.

EDIT: The only thing I don't like is from the cockpit the fan blades look a little funny when fully spooled up (one flat plate).

I agree Saratoga I've got one in the Jetstar livery without a VC and I haven't missed the VC at all :D
