IVAN! HELP!

Ivan, I downloaded some of the "Diamonds" and don't know if I did something wrong or not.
The site said that I needed to download the panels to add to the aircraft so I did.
I gave instuctions on how to install the planes and panel using classic WinZip mode, I couldn't get mine to do that so I installed the stuff the same as any other plane.
FS9 said some of the files might not be compatable but I told it to use them anyway and FS9 crashed.
I removed the plane and panel and reinstalled and told it not to use the incompatible files and the plane worked but there was no panel.
So obviously there is a panel file that is causing FS9 to crash.
Do you have any idea as to what I can do to fix this problem?
The reason I ask for you is because you are obviously the man on add-on aircraft!!

most likely suspect: GPS

which one did you get of that page?

first 3 on the page use FSGarmin... that doesn't work in FS2004, so replace the gps with the default big one
gauge name is fs9gps!gps_500, and leave the rest the same

The first plane I tried is the Katana.
In its folder the file is gps195.
The downloaded gauges folder has a file gpsmap195.gau.
which is the one that FS9 says is incampatable.
I looked around and cannot find a file fs9gps!gps _500.

In the FS9 gauge folder there is a cabinet file FS9gps, is this what you are refering too?
And if it is how do I replace a file like that?
And another question that might sound stupid, what is the proper way to install gauges?
Do you copy the complete folder or each item inside of a folder?
In my FS9 gauges folder there are three other folders each named Gauges (spelled different for each folder) with the seperate files inside. Should all those file be kept in a folder or out of it?
This might explain some of my problems with other downloaded aircraft.

stuff in gauges is:
all the things ending on .gau
all the things ending on .cab
gauge folder has subfolders, usually for effect gauges.

Thank you! It looks like I figured it out!!
I now have a panel with instruments.
I removed all lines refering to gpsmap195 and replaced it with the one you said. the only problem is that the gps unit is streched out and out of proportion but it works.
Ther was also another file- FSSound.dll, that was incompatiable. If I told FS9 to load it the sim would eventually crash, so I found and removed it and the plane works.
So much to learn!! But fun and frustrating!!
One more question and I'll let you get back to doing your awesome communitiy service.
Is there a way you can work on files and not have to restart FS9 everytime to see if the changes made worked?
What I mean is I would change something in the file then start up FS9 to see if it worked and then close it to go back to the file to make another change and then reload FS9 to see what happened and so on.
Shurly there has got to be a eaisier way.
Is ther a way to have Explorer open at the same time as FS9?

Ther was also another file- FSSound.dll, that was incompatiable. If I told FS9 to load it the sim would eventually crash, so I found and removed it and the plane works.

version 1.5.0 works ok for me. with the following added to the cfg file

[OLDMODULES]
FSsound.dll=1

So much to learn!! But fun and frustrating!!

no... as it reads the cfg files only at start.
But the thing named 'FS9 Configurator' has a better layout and switch description.

What I mean is I would change something in the file then start up FS9 to see if it worked and then close it to go back to the file to make another change and then reload FS9 to see what happened and so on.

• alt-tab... not too often or FS will crash. set the 'pause on task switch on off'
• windowed mode
• there is a file somewhere on Simviation which turns the kneeboard in a makeshift browser... no forward/back buttons or URL bar
