AIRCRAFT Designer Question ???

Postby Jetranger » Mon Feb 20, 2012 8:30 pm

I have a Question thats been bothering me for a few years and I'm sure others have the same thoughts and often wondered WHY ???  When we Flight Simmer Guru' Hobbyist download an Aircraft and sometimes an Aircraft doesn't come with a "VC" ( Virtual Cockpit), I always wondered Why, is it hard to make ? or - is the Program that makes Virtual Cockpits hard to work with and hard to use as to why some Aircraft Designers & Creators don't attempt to make a Virtual Cockpit.  I've always wondered this but never have asked before, didn't think anybody would tell me. So if you don't mind, what is the Answer ??  Thanks for the Info ! The JetrangerImageImage

Thanks, I Know I Couldn't do it, it turn out to be a Disaster and with my luck, somehow the Virtual Cockpit would end up on the outside of the Aircraft !!! :o :o :o  :-/ :-/

It's really hard, Jetranger. It's probably the most time consuming part of making an FS airplane.
To make it good you need tons of information: pictures of all the corners and holes in the cockpit, info on which gauge does what (especially when you can't read russian, like me and my Yak-15), make the 2D/3D gauges (which requires quite some experience with XML programming), texture everything from the large cockpit areas to the nuts and bolts. Animate and tag all switches, levers, trimrods, etc., if possible: Some cannot be simulated in FS therefore they're left unclickable. I personally love making my own planes exactly for the fact that you can make things up as you go along. If you're like me and have no chance of going near the real version of the plane you're doing, and cannot find any info on the nets after hours of searching (aka me and my Yak-15 again), you're going to be up for a lot of frustration and pain to make a decent VC...

What part of the Yak-15 cockpit do you need info on Ricardo?

Mostly the back side: the seat, rear side panels, behind the seat. And also the rudder pedal and yoke sections. I've been searching for clear pictures of that since September, when I halted the development of the plane....
Why do you ask?

There is a Yak-15 at the Vadim Zadorozhny Technical Museum near Moscow, have you emailed them asking for some pictures? :)

You need to understand systems as that all has to be modelled.

Reference is difficult

Timewise it takes loger than the rest of the model

I don't make VC's as I din't have the sysem knowwledge and also don't like VC's and never ever use them.

Si I'm not going to spend a thousand hours making something I'll never want to use. :o

If you can find someone willing to make a VC, it can easily be added to the aircraft in FSX that doesn't have one. Again creating a VC is a big task, but it can be done.

Looks like a Ford Trimotor

VC modelling is one thing, but to model it accurately with all the systems working correctly is very difficult

A lot of VC's are not done properly.

It's not a case of can it be done, more of whether or not enough reference and knowledge to do it properly is available.

You can add them easily to FS.X but not to FS.9

Everybody wants to know where did I get that Ford TRI-MOTOR at ?? Well, let me tell Ya, I gotta tell, I can't keep a secret for Jack diddly Squat ~ ! I got it from CR-1 Software ( google it ), and heres a Video Promo' of it, and it comes for FSX and has a self installer that works and comes with about 8 different paint schemes and not only is the Virtual Cockpit rendered really well, but you should see the Virtual Passenger cabin too, not all Cheesy and square & boxy like some are, quite detailed and rendered very very nicely - Tom over at CR-1 know what he's doing for sure !!
