Panel texture and gauge placement

Postby brettt777 » Thu Dec 25, 2008 6:08 pm

I have a T-38A that I am trying to get the panel to work in. It has several textures in the texture directory that appear to be put on the panel by some other means than the panel.cfg. I guess that's okay or maybe even normal. But I cannot get a gauge to appear on it at all, no matter which one of these textures I use or don't use. It doesn't tell me that the gauge won't work or is the wrong format; it just doesn't appear. I assume these textures are put in place by the .mdl file maybe...? When a model is made there are textures assigned to each surface or whatever, right? So if these textures are on the panel surface, shouldn't I just be able to assign a gauge a spot on that texture? Or am I way off base here?

If you post a link to the panel I'll see what I can do with it.  As far as I know the .mdl file only affects the VC, not the 2D panel.

PS - Which version of FS are you using?

I am using FSX, and my problems are with VC. I can do 2D panels no problem and I can usualy figure out a VC problem but this particular aircraft/VC, for some reason i cannot get it to work at all.

Gauges on many VC's can only be placed in spots pre-defined by
the modeler. Unlike 2D panels, the VC's are not a 'blank canvass',
so to speak. Some VC's, particularly those designed for FS9 do
allow placement of gauges/icons/etc anywhere on the surfaces
but most in FSX do not.

Thge best you can hope for in this case is to either replace an
existing gauge or 'share' the space by reducing the size of the existing
gauge and inserting a new, small gauge in the freed up space.
I use this technique to add icons to some VC's.
