When Seeking Permission...

Postby ShaneG_old » Mon Aug 25, 2008 4:31 pm

How long is a proper time to wait without response from a person whose gauges you are trying to use, before you just assume that their 'freeware' policy is good enough permission?
I've seen this  case occur many times from reading other readmes from planes I've downloaded from various sites. I have sent emails, made forum requests, and sent personal messages. It has only been two days so I'm not worried yet, but if after all these attempts at contact, How long should I wait to upload? :-/

Thanx for the response! ;)

Cool!  I don't know, but give those who haven't replied a week, send them another e-mail, give that a few days, then i think if they do not reply, put a note in the "Read-Me" that you asked permission twice via e-mail or post, but did not recieve a reply.

But that's just me.  Being relatively new to this, so as far as I know,  there may already be some "unwritten rule of thumb".

In another thread where similar questions were asked, one respondant said, (to paraphrase) "if you don't get permission, you don't have permission".

He may have a point, on the other hand, there is the old "rule of thumb":  Silence implies consent.

Just a thought. ;)

You should not use them until you have permission

Just because you have not paid to use them does not negate the copyright.

Maybe best not include emails as they are private correspondance

Just say many thank to 'names' for allowing me to use their guages.

Or something similar
