AFCAD Question

Postby Ferrari308guy » Sun Mar 23, 2008 12:23 pm

Hey everybody-

Just made an AFCAD file of my own recently. I exported it as a BGL and put in my Add-on Scenery ->Scenery folder (like any normal BGl file). When I launched FS to check it out, I have the new airport I designed on top of the old original airport. How do I get rid of the original airport so the I just see the new one I created? Is there another file I have to delete or move?

The program I am using is Airport Design Editor. It lets me edit the AFCAD, and then compiles it into a BGL. It's a freeware program.

Here's the website if anybody wants to have a look:
http://www.airportdesigneditor.co.uk/

Any help would be great.

Can you tell me which version of ADE you are using?  Also did you start your airport from scratch or did you start by loading the stock airport?  If you started from the stock airport then ADE will automatically exclude the stock elements for you

I just downloaded version 1.20 of ADE. It wasn't out when I started the project, so I had whatever version was before that. Yeah, it's a stock airport that I edited. :D

Hey ScruffyDuck, thanks for your help. I think I've solved the problem.

I happened to rename the airport ICAO code to it's current version, so my problem was that I had 2 airports, 1 under the old ICAO, and the new version of the airport with the new ICAO. I just had to go and move the original file from my scenery folder.

By the way, can you add scenery objects with ADE? I'm looking for a good object placer and don't know if ADE can do it or not.

Thanks, Ferrari :)

That would certainly cause problems if you have two version of the airport in different locations with different ICAO.

ADE version 1.20 can work with scenery objects.  At the moment it is limited to about 500 of the most common found at airports but that will be expanded to include any objects in a later version.  It can also handle generic buildings (but not yet create them) and terrain elements like flattens, land class, excludes and roads.

Can you direct me to a place where it tells me how to add these objects? Is there a tutorial from the ADE site? Thanks

ADE is available from AVSIM or www.airportdesigneditor.co.uk.  It comes with a detailed manual that includes the handling of library objects.  The full downlaod is version 1.20 and then there is an update just released to 1.22
