Can Google Earth Screenshots?

Postby DoubleBounce » Fri Jan 05, 2007 7:21 am

Before I waste a lot of time I thought I would ask if Google Earth Screenshots can be inserted where small villages fail to show up in FS9.

You are right, there are 3 sets of copyrights on Google Earth information.

Thanks for the answer Pepper. :)

Marfa Municipal airport has about the same area as the town I live in.

Yes, it most certainly can be done so long as there are aerial photos of your town.  But it's the LEARNING part of the process that takes time.  And that can takes weeks or months depending on your skill level, interest, and creativity.  One of the best  programs I have found to lay down some photoreal textures is a program called SBuilder.  You can lay down some 4.8m terrain using that.

If you want as you said just something other than a crossroad as to where you live, you might try adding your own landclass to the area.  YOu basically tell FS9 where you want additional towns, cities or rural areas and you use textures already in the program.  Plus it will add houses, trees and buildings.  SBuilder and a host of other programs will do this as well.

Since I am on a roll here, a 3rd method would just be to purchase a commercial landclass product that provides more detail than the default flightsim.  Several companies make them like FSGenesis.  The hard part is finding out if it covers your town or not.  Maybe there is a trial period with one of them.

Anywho... good luck!

It is a steep learning curve.   :(
I have spent the past several days surfing to learn all I could about scenery design.
I have downloaded several utility and design programs to help me accomplish what I want to do.
Now all I have to do is learn how to use them and get started on my project. :)
