hardened surfaces

Hi, I started using gmax a couple of weeks ago, so I'm still quite new to it...

I'd like ot make a helipad, but I don't know how to make it landable...can anyone help? thks

Go get the SDK (Software Developer's Kit):

MakeMDL
BGLComp
Gmax Gamepack

You'll need both the first and the last ones, and the information you're looking for is contained in the BGL Comp.  It will explain hardened surfaces.  Katahu might also be able to help in this regard, as he has been working on a racetrack recently.

I agree with locke. The SDKs will provide you with all the information and tools on how to make a hard surface [in any shape]. All you need is a basic understand of the concept involved. I am creating an elevate track that is made entirely in Gmax with only primitive objects [no AFCAD, no Rwy12, no 3rd party software] and is exported "directly" into FS9.

I have setup a few simple instruction manuals on my website. These instruction manuals will help you better understand the SDKs that Locke has showed you. You can find my website by looking at my sig. The manuals are located in the tutorial section.

There is one other tutorial that can help you greatly in terms of setting up an exlusion zone without the need for 3rd party software. It also revolves around the Microsoft SDKs. The tutorial is found through the following link.

I started using sbuild and rwy12, but I want to create my oiwn scenery so I started to use gmax, and now I'm totally adicted, having several projects in mind for the future...

I' ve done two small scens and also exported them directly into fs9, wich is fairly easy, but now I want more...hehe

I tryed gmax a couple of years ago, and tryed o make an aircraft, but I found it way too dificult...now I started with scenery wich is way easyer and far better for a beginer to start to grasp all the intricacies of gmax...

by the way, is it possible to creat a scenery of a helipad, say 20ft above ground, and then in afcad create an invisible helipad at the same height?

would the heli land there, because of the invisible afcad helipad, or would it sunk?

If this can be done it would be very easy to do basic hardened surfaces...as for angled decks is another story...:)

Sorry, not possible.

You can put an AFCAD-based pad at the same location and height, but you will see an ugly terrain mesh stretched from ground.

When you create the helipad object in Gmax, use the attach tool included in the SDKs to create the hard surface. From that point on, it won't matter how high the pad it in FS. It will still be landing without the AFCAD-based pad.

also (so many questions, so litle time) is the info to create angled hardened surfaces also in the sdk's?

I'm creating my house in Gmax and I have a very gig garden wich is angled, and I'd like to land there in a heli, and as it is a few feet above FS ground, I'll need a angled landable surface...

But if the info is in the sdk's that would be fine...
