ok a few questions for THIS thread

Ok how do I export scenery (inside Gmax) into FS?

When making scenery and placing it in FS, If I have one object that i want three or so of, can i just use one model and have it auto-matically duplicated in FS? (can i only use one original model)

1. Exporting Scenery from Gmax to FS:

You must have the system set up for exporting.  For the instructions, see this thread.  Be sure to read it VERY CAREFULLY, and follow all the instructions to the letter.  It was written for FS2002, but the setup is still the same.

Make sure all the correct files are in the correct places, or this won't work.  Make sure you get the FS2004 SDKs, and not the 2002 ones, or you'll be working off an old system that doesn't contain the right features for FS2004.

2. Yes, you can use the same model for multiple placements.  This is just accomplished by entering the correct lat and long in the XML file created by MakeMDL after exporting.  You don't have to export multiple times: just recompile the same XML and BGL files, entering different coordinates in the XML each time.  This will all make sense when you READ ALL THE DOCUMENTATION IN THE MICROSOFT SDKs!!! ;D

Gmax is free, and the SDK has everything you need to export.  I think . . .  ;)

Well, first off, I was wrong.  There is one single file that you can't get using the SDK (Software Developer's Kit) for Gmax and FS2002.  Its a little plugin called FSModelExp.dle that only comes with FS2002 Pro, apparently.  It comes standard in the FS2004 SDK for Gmax, but I don't know if that will work for 2k2.

If you wait a few days, I'm gonna totally reinstall Gmax and see if I can get a small step-by-step on getting from Gmax to FS (2k2 or ACOF) from scratch.  There was one done for 2k2, but its a little outdated now that there isn't much need for the scenery stuff.

I'll get back to you in a few.
