Photoreal Scenery

Postby willg » Fri Mar 25, 2005 8:03 am

I'm a little frustrated at all the scenery around airports just being the same, totally flat greeny/brown, with random buildings all over the place.

Are there any scenery packs that make approaches more realistic, i.e, around heathrow (which was the approach that first made me get a little annoyed about this kind of thing)you should clearly be able to see towns and motorways in high photoreal detail, see things as they should be, i.e rivers, railways, more authentic buildings, greenery/parks in the correct areas.
i dont mean defualt roads and parks etc, but as they actually appear in real life.

you could argue that this is actually in flightsim already, but when im on approach to heathrow it just looks pathetic, and I'd just like to see what real pilots would be seeing on the approach to heathrow, not just the same old texture with random buildings.

i know loads of people must want better scenery, but this would only have to be like 15 miles or so around the airport.

Yes there are lots of scenery available for what you want, try going here and buy VFR photographic scenery and the visual flight Lndon scenery.

Also go here and get some of the autogen trees and some of the add-ons for the area a you want.

If you get all of that you won't be dissapointed

Do you have to purchase VFR photographic scenery AND VFR terrain mesh to get the best results?

The only reason behind this is most pay ware will go the extra mile to make a scenery realistic. But there are some freeware scenery that i s not bad at all. The choice you have to make is do you want to pay for scenery and if so how much? Or do you want to search all over the place to find some descent freeware scenery.
Of course there is the other choice of making your own but truthly most people are not up to this.
The only draw back I see from buying scenery now is FS10 will be out sometime this year and if you are going to buy that there is a good chance that the scenery you buy will not work in it. So you just bought scenery that is useless to you unless the designer decides to offer a upgrade to previous versions, you just lost the money you paid for the scenery.

I think the VFR package is worth the money, I only have the North as tend to fly this area, and my sceneries are here too.  It is a must if you are doing your own scenery

There is some good UK freeware add on and I am sure I came across a good Heathrow a while back.
