What's the trick ?

Postby Gringo6 » Sat Sep 25, 2004 2:22 pm

??? ???
I want to use the panel from the P-38 in CSF2  for the P-38 in CSF.

I can get the background to show up ok, but the gauges won't show up.

Yes, I have moved the P-38.gau file from CSF2 to CSF so the gauges are there. I have confirmed this with cfgedit and the panel looks just fine there and the panel cfg file looks normal too, but for some reason CSF just won't open up the P-38 gauge file and get out the gauges I want.

I know it's probably something simple, but I'm simple too and I can't figure it out.

Anybody got any ideas ? ?

I am only guessing here, as I have no experience with CFS, but I'm thinking its because CFS is so much older than CFS2 so it doesn't even register the type of gauges that CFS2 uses.

I just reloaded CFS1 to check this out. It should work.
Before I can go any farter I need to know a couple of things.

You are talking about the default CFS1 P38, right? If so, is there an AI flyable file for this acft. and if so, give me a link as to where it is. Got to get that bird flying first.

Then I can install my CFS2 P38 panel and see what it takes to make it work.

Well, found the stuff I needed. Loaded up my panel and no go. Just like you said, got the panel bitmap but no gauges.

I am guessing that the p38_lightning.gau is a more modern gauge that CFS1 cannot read.

The only other option would be to install CFS1 gauges into that panel.

That can be done using a program called CfgEdit.  In case you don't know, its a freeware program designed to edit 2d cockpits visually.  It loads up the bitmap FS (or in this case, CFS) uses for the cockpit and then places the gauges (draws them) on it.  You can then move them around using your mouse, or if necessary, add others and subtract the originals.  It should work with CFS 1, but you might try looking into that.

Yes, I have used ConfigEdit and the panel looks good there. In fact it looks good everywhere except in the simulator.

I guess there is some difference in the CSF2 gauges that prevents them from working in CSF1.

Thanks guys, I'll use the panel background and see if I can't add some CSF1 gauges to it.

Thanks for all of your help.
