Import CFS 2 carriers to FS02/04???

Postby Gary R. » Sat Sep 11, 2004 1:30 am

Can anyone explain to me how I would import and position the Yorktown class carriers from CFS2 into either of the most recent FS versions?  Ever since my wife got me "Breifing Time" for my birthday last Nov. I've been curious to see if I could get that baby off a WW2 carrier deck just like Jimmy Doolittle's boys did during the war. ;D

Also, if and when I do get the carriers into FS 02/04 how would I position my B-25 on the deck for take off?

I'm not sure about the importing bit, but I think you can create a Menu Entry on an invisible runway the same length, height and heading as the Carrier using FSSC.

I have put carriers in FS2002/2004. You need a carrier macro ( see simviation) ..not sure if there any like the Yorktown, they mostly seem to be more modern slant deck carriers....However I bet someone has built one out there....It would be fairly easy with Easy Object Design to make a fairly decent carrier macro. There is also a utility that converts FS98 models to macros ( is there a carrier in FS98)

It would also have to be stationary, but you could simulate movement with a headwind.

Once having got your carrier macro. place it in your desired location with FSSC. Then superimpose a runway on top of it at the required height...use a texture for the runway that matches the flightdeck( wood in the case of the Yorktown?)

You will then be able to take off (and land if you have got good brakes and are just above stalling speed).

I have not found a way of adding arrestor cables to a carrier, but have heard talk of "superspoilers" that simulate them. But then B25's have no tailhooks and they landed in China anyway ( the lucky ones that is)

I have taken off in a B25 from a carrier in CFS2 and once landed ( although hard braking collapsed the nosewheel) but I don't know how realistic the aircraft file was or whether it was anything like "Briefing Time"

I believe you can use the CFS2 ships in FS2002 and FS2004. It would require some work though and this is just theory as I have not done it myself.

First, they are much like AI aircraft. so you would have to build aircraft.cfg and air files for each.  Next make an airport  with 1 parking spot to place the carrier in and set it up as a static AI aircraft.  If things work this far, see if it is landable. If not, then you would have to place a runway in the location of the landing surface of the deck.

The reason I think it would work with some fancy airport building  is that I have copied one of these ships to my FS2002 aircraft folder and changed the file named ship.cfg to aircraft.cfg and then I could see the ship in FS Repaint.

Follow up to above. I have managed to get at least one of the CFS2 carriers into FS2002 as a flyable vehicle but it need someone good with aircraft.cfg and *.air files to get it to work well. So they CAN be used as AI objects.

Gary,

Eric Busseau has put out a file I found on the net named fsshipsv2.zip where he has converted the CFS ships for FS2002. They look great!
