Anyone know sound files?

Postby Travis » Thu Aug 12, 2004 6:17 pm

I have been attempting to create the Hughes H-1b Racer for FS for nearly 1 1/2 years now, and am almost finished.  The only problem is I can't find a decent sound set for it.  It has a very distinctive sound, which can't be reproduced from stock sound files.  There is a version for FS2000 that has a very nice sound set that really gives the feel of the aircraft, but I have been unable to contact the author.

So I went in search of a good sound file for this aircraft and happened upon a 5 minute audio file that had startup, takeoff and flyby all in one go.  The only problem is I don't know diddly about hacking sound files.

So if anyone would like to help me with this, or just give me some hints or links, I would be most appreciative.

BTW, here is the address for the raw sound file.  Just scroll to the bottom of the page:

Hey Ender,

Have you had a look at Audacity?

Wow! :o  That's a great program!  I wish I had known about that six months ago, I would have been making sound files like crazy.

Thanks, Strato.

Next question:  Anyone know of a place where I can find sound.cfg editing tutorials?

No problem, Ender

Anyone know of a place where I can find sound.cfg editing tutorials?

I don't think anybody's ever done one ???

Best bet would be to get into contact with one of the Sound designers  ???

My advice exactly. If your model is a good one, drop someone like Mike Hambley or Aaron Swindle a note and see if they could do anything for you. They have soooooo much knowledge and experience they would know exactly which bits of the sound file to use and how to combine it to get the right balance of internal and external sounds.

The chance of doing it yourself I reckon is pretty minimal without the use of a proper sound editing deck and stuff like that. These guys are maestros at their art. What they create sounds dead easy - it's just that they do it so well.

BTW I know we have some pretty good sound guys here on the forum as I can remember posts going back errrrr....... quite a long time. Trouble is I can't remember names!
