Bristol Airport Development Page (2)

Postby bm » Tue Dec 30, 2003 11:48 am

I thought I would start a new Topic. (For fun ::))

I haven't done much more but a few more macros and lots more textures. The light poles make a big difference but I have been unable to cast a light on the ground and I don't think I will bother. By the time all the taxiway lights are there and everythig there should be enough light around the place.

Still got a few more building macros to make and the whole of the old terminal to texture (I Ain't lookin forward to doing that :() Then some trees, taxiway lines, static aircraft (only a few light aircraft round the hangar by the Fire training planes and the big hangar near the postal depot) AFCAD file, surrounding FS ground textures and levels (Possibly mesh but we'll see). And after that all the Flightplans for the airport. :o

I made a big boo boo at the beginning by puting the runway at 272 degrees. I took it off the UKGA site but unfortunately theres a spit of green in FS at an angle other then 272 which makes it look like my runways the wrong direction! I shall have to do something about that. Anyways - here are the pics!

;)

Good stuff Bird, glad to see it's coming on.

And light at night isn't too much of a problem. Maybe we'll look at that together a bit later - not much time right now.

Here is an update, to be honest I've been dreading doing the old terminal as I thought it would be too hard and most of the textures Ive made just look rubbish!

Anyway, I think im quite pleased with the result though! The tower bit needs a texture but I need to make a glass texture first. (My current attempt you can see on the left :'(!)

I also finally cracked with how awful the new terminal looked and redid that too! Its much better now I think. (the small one is the picture I worked from).

I've just got to finnish the behind of the old terminal and then thats done. I don't know what to do about some of the hangars which are out of the way really, I don't really think it would be worth it putting doors etc on them. (like the ones to the left of the old terminal) what do you think?

I think im going to redo the textures for the large tower and the oildrums (you can see them in the pics at the top of the page). I found it extremely dificult to make a metal texture though.

Thanks for your kind comments!

Im afraid its not going to be anytime soon. I think it will take another week to get all the buildings built and textured how I want them. Then I've got to struggle with the levels around the airport which will either take a very short time or will take forever depending on if it works or not! Then theres little bits and bobs to add in and finish off. If anyone has built an electric trainset (proper one with meshed scenery and automatic points) they will know you can never finish it. Ill just bite the bullet when I think the time is right!

Thankyou very much, Im using FS2004. I think you may want to look at this post as I say what I use and give links where to get them. Heres the link:

Craig, is the Tower really made of metal or is it just the sun on my photos?

I have a clear picture of the old one. The new one in my picture isn't totally clear so I just need to check.

Here is a slight update: I have now got these see-through macros I wanted (thanks for the hint Hagar). I've also put down some taxiway lines. But Sometimes when I join two lines together the area around the join just dissapears ??? is there any reason for this?

I have also done the levels around the airport getting rid of a huge spit of land which was no-where near real life :o

There is also a new ground texture which I made myself, I can't seem to make/find one which doesn't completely clash with the surrounding scenery :(:
