Yes, you can (I believe so, but don't know the aircraft).
But as far as I know you can't ADD painting shemes in FSR, only overwrite.
(maybe this has already changed from version to version!?  :-?)
If not, do so:

open the aircraft folder. Copy and paste the "textures" or a "textures.anything" called folder and rename it to something like "textures.mypaint".
Now open the Aircraft.cfg from the main aircraft folder.
copy the complete section [fltsim.0] with all its subentries. You'll find several [fltsim.x] sections e.g. until [fltsim.17] (just an example).
Now you have to paste the copied thing after the last fltsim section, e.g. the 17th one.
edit the title [fltsim.0] from the pasted text to the next number - in the example to [fltsim.18].
Change the tag ui_variation to something you like, e.g. from "ui_variation=Cirrus Airlines" to "ui_variation=MyPaint".
Change the "title=" to anything that doesn't exist yet, e.g. "Air_Southwest_Dash_Repaint"
Theres also a key called "texture=". what is after the "=" needs to be changed (or if nothing just added) to the texture folder name addition, in the exmaple of "textures.mypaint" it needs to be "texture=mypaint". Understood?  ;) If not, read it again....  :D

Now open FSRepaint and you can edit the MyPaint or whatever you called it variation without overwriting original ones.
Good Luck! Puuuuh that was much text....  ;D

Revelator - your post, although well meaning, is totally wrong and misses the whole point of FS Repaint.

From the first version - the PURCHASED FS Repaint will create the new variant for you, copying the texture files, etc. and modifying the aircraft.cfg.  IF not, what's the point of FS Repaint?  The paint editor in FS Repaint is very basic, to say the least, but at least you can use your favorite.

IF you just have FS REpaint in demo mode then you cannot save your changes nor add a variant, and all it becomes is a model viewer.

Having said that, there are SOME models whose protection scheme prevent them from being opened in FS Repaint, so in that case, it's back to your outline!!  :)

#2 On this one, write to Abacus tech support.

#3 Have your tried removing it (using the Windows COntrol Panel /Remove Programs) and reinstalling?

It doesn't sound like he pirated it to me. I would think that if he did, the author of the crack would be smart enough to make it work. Common sense. In any case, a similar thing happened with the PMDG 747. Just contact the author of the program, and they'll work with you. Just prove that you actually bought it!  FSR is a nice program, and they just updated it (I think, I don't use it anymore, needed to learn the good ol' fashioned way!)

WHilke I don't knwo which Dash-8 you're talking about (payware?)  keep in mind that some models are either protected, or otherwise mapped in such a way that FSRepaint will not be able to read them.  Before you cry "foul", note that it is posted on the FSREpaint2! web page.
