FSX painting help

Postby jieitai » Sun Jun 10, 2007 10:32 pm

Well, I understand "skinning" with .dds files, but the aircraft I want to repaint (Brazilian UH60) is an addon, that has .bmp files as the texture. Now when I try to view the files, I get a "corrupted file" message. When I try to open it in Photoshop, I get a "disk error" message. Why are they un-openable .bmps instead of the usual .dds?

Also, the thumbnail shows external fuel tanks, which don't appear in game :-?

And there's this weird thing, that happens with alot of add-on aircraft:

What's with the red overlay?

EDIT: Nuts, clicked on the wrong forum--could have sworn I clicked the painting section.

Download DXTbmp and all the recuired .dll's at Martin Wright's site. You can use it to open the .bmp's.

I'm not sure about the red overlay. Maybe your videocard doesn't support certain texture formats...  :-? I have an option in my video card setting that I can check so it supports DXT textures. You could try that. What videocard do you have anyway?

GeForce 6200. I had the same red overlay problem with Rainbow Six Raven Sheild <_<

Skinning the existing aircraft was harder than I thought. What details (DXT1, DXT2, etc.) should I save the .dds files as? And apparently creating a new "texture(x)" folder with the custom skin didn't work.....
