32bit <--> DXT3

A great entry on the design ladder, repainting can be rewarding & fun! Learn how here! (Not for repaint requests)

32bit <--> DXT3

Postby BFMF » Sat Mar 11, 2006 12:38 am

How do I convert textures between the two formats? I know how to save textures in the DXT3 format, but how do I convert them to 32bit texures???

The reason i'm asking is, I once took some aircraft textures that showed up really blurry in FS9, did something to it, and it showed up nice and crisp, but I can't remember what I did.

Download "DXT bmp" found here : DXT bmp.

What you would do is open your specified file , then save as "Extended Bitmap" then save as recommended file, alot of options DX1 all the way to 24 bit ect. ;D

That was simple. I converted textures to 32bit, but the textures are still blury in FS9. Any ideas how I can make show up as clear?

It's the Mip Maps that cause the blurriness! :D

How could I have forgotten that? ::)

Thanks Skynoz! 8)

Andrew,

The best way to convert a DXT3 to a 32bit BMP. is with Imagetool. It does all the hard work for you (removes bitmaps, etc.), all you need to do is open your DXT3 in it and save as .BMP. Easy!  :)

There's an option which you click on called 'Extract Mip-Maps' and then you save the full-sized image as the BMP.  :)
