You'll need a paintkit and good imaging software... Adobe Photoshop and Jasc Paint Shop Pro recommended... And a few other bits and bobs, such as Imagetool and DXTBmp...

Imagetool is a program by Microsoft, originally included with FS2002 Pro, but omitted from FS9. It's available at http://www.projectopensky.com/files.

Without it, I (and I think every other repainter) couldn't be able to paint. It's the program that allows you to save your TGAs as 32bit BMPs etc.

PSP 8.0 was a dog; PSP 9.0 much better, but PSP X is a heck of a lot better.

Of course, I still have PSP7.0 co-installed.

For Paint Shop Pro, you just have to visit

http://store.corel.com/webapp/wcs/store ... ogId=10103

For Image Tool, you can get it from one of the SDKs provided by Microsoft.

Not really.  DXTBmp does the same thing, and I think there are at least a couple of others out there that will do it, too, including a paint program that has that feature built in.

Ive done a lot of repaints and i use 3-4 programs to get the job done, the easiest for me is Adobe Photoshop, MS Paint, DXTBmp and then well FS2004 to view my projects to get them as accurate as possible.

I don't get it. If you have Photoshop & know how to use it what possible use would you have for M$ Paint? ???

There's no need to spend out on expensive graphics editing software. Pixia is Freeware including Layers & other features used for repainting. http://park18.wakwak.com/~pixia/
