Read this thread falcon.....

http://www.simviation.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=repnt;action=display;num=1135174556

Much has to do with Alpha channels etc. Something to beaware of is some aircraft that are designed in G-max or FSDS will not have a specular applied otheward, they wont be compatiable with reflections. Just read this thread and you will understand. ;) ;D

Basically falcon, the model builder decides if the alpha channel is used for shine or transparency. You can't change it. If his choice was for transparency only, the darker you make the alpha the more transparent the plane will become. You'll never get shine. Conversely, if he went for shine, the darker you make the alpha the more shine you'll get so long as you only apply the alpha to the bits he intended to be shiny  ;)

Falcon, if you are getting into repainting and want to learn how to to alpha channels, then go to the tutorials for this site on this subject. Firstly Bro you will need a program called DXTBmp. it is a program to open all files in the texture folders in FS. This program has made it so easy for all repainters, you can select your editor and after that click alpha and create alpha ch. and send it to the editor and do majic. after you are done you go back to alpha and click refresh alpha ch. then apply it to the texture. save it and open fs and see your new shiny A/C

any more question or if u would like a picture tutorial, I can make one up for ya.
