Mirrored Logo on rudder

Postby Poseidon » Sat Sep 24, 2005 3:46 pm

Hi, I have a problem trying to add the logo on the default FS2002 Boeing 737's rudder. I put the logo on the left side of the eudder and it appears mirrored on the right side. It seems whatever I put on the right is ognored also. Is there some way to bypass this problem? Thanks for any ideas.

I'm affraid there's no solution to your problem. The default 737 left rudder texture also mirror-maps to the right rudder side.

I have been searching the Net for info on repainting FS9 default a/c in regard to the mirrored effect one gets on fuselage, wings, rudders. A friend has told me there is a way to get round this anomaly but he can't remember what it is or where he saw it.  :'(Yes, he is still a friend!!
It would appear from previous posts that there is no way to get round this unless some expert painter happens to know differently.  If so, and he/she was willing to share the process, it would be a boon to all default repainters and he/she would be a certainty to enter the Simmers Hall of Fame!!

Unless you were to have the original source file and remap the textures, there is no way to fix it.

Basically, the SAME texture is used for the right and left sides of the default (most) FS2002/2004 aircraft.

I said: "Hey, doc, it hurts when I go like this."

"Then don't go like that," was the doctor's reply.

If one doesn't like paintkits with mirrored kits don't use them :-)

Smiple? You bet. There's copious amounts of paintkits (with requisite models) out there in cyberspace to use which are NOT mirrored.

Your reply - like the doctor's - is useless and unfunny.
Pointing out the obvious, as in your second paragraph , is the tool of fools.

Now, now, children.  If you can't play nice, we'll just take your toys away. ;)

Seriously, there's no reason to assume he was making the statement to goad you.  After all, there are many people out there that would NOT know that there were paint kits out there, unmirrored.

And just FYI, everything on this forum is said in good fun and jest! ;D

Happy Flying!

Oh, yes . . . and while you were out . . . I repainted an un-mirrored paintkit :-)

Remember: If you want lettering to appear correctly on both sides of the repaint, DO NOT use a mirrored paint_kit -- download an an un-mirrored paintkit form SimViation's extensive libraries. I did.

Hi Poseiden,

You've found what we all do. You start by painting the default aircraft for fun but you immediately find the limitations. DON'T WASTE ANY MORE OF  YOUR TIME WITH THEM.

Now that you've discovered the pleasures of painting do what Bill said - either repaint QUALITY aircraft that have alreday been painted (and maybe create your own white/blank paint kit in the process if you intend to do several different liveries for the same aircraft) OR download proper paint kits that (a) use NO mirrored texture and (b) preferably also come with layers.

In the end it's up to you, but no respectable painters bother with default aircraft and I don't care what anyone tries to post to the contrary because it's true  :P

By overlaying a Pattern Layer one can also make their own paintkit; this one took about five minutes in Photoshop; the more time spent on it the better the results.

From the paintkit stage, it's simply a matter of Layering see-through Layers (Hybrid Layers in Pixia or Multiply Layers in PhotoShop) to cover her up with your favorite repaint colors, text and logos.

Thanks to Pavel Toman for his C-172 model and repaint and thanks to Simviation for making this file available for FREE d/l

P.S. Screenshot as viewed in FSRepaint

Throw some paint at it . . . some text, a logo and a swirl . . .
