CFS repainting

Postby Sytse » Sat Sep 10, 2005 6:58 am

So I figured out how to do repaints for CFS the other day, but I found it very hard to actually get my repainted textures in the game. I repainted the stock P-51 and I copied the P-51 file, gave it another name and put in the modified textures. Then I had to change the name of the plane in one of the .cfg files (I forgot which one...) After that it worked, but now the new textures were also showing on a different P-51 repaint I have.

Can someone tell me how to get my repaints up and flying properly? And is it possible to add repainted textures to an already existing plane file, so you have two skins in one file?

I haven't used CFS in awhile, but if you could post the first sections of the .cfg file, I might be able to help out, if they use the same format as CFS2 and FS2002/2004.

Here's the first section of the default p-51:

[fltsim.0]
title=North American P-51D
sim=P51d
model=
panel=
sound=
texture=
checklists=P51d_CHECK

Thanks for looking.

If it follows FS, then you can do the following,

- place your new textures in a new sub-folder of the plane...

P-51D\texture.new1
P-51D\texture.new2
etc...

- modify the aircraft.cfg file with the following to see the 2 new paint schemes

[fltsim.0]
title=North American P-51D
sim=P51d
model=
panel=
sound=
texture=
checklists=P51d_CHECK

[fltsim.1]
title=North American P-51D - New Paint 1 \\ must be unique
sim=P51d
model=
panel=
sound=
texture= new1   \\ <-- points to your new paint
checklists=P51d_CHECK

[fltsim.2]
title=North American P-51D - New 2
sim=P51d
model=
panel=
sound=
texture= new2
checklists=P51d_CHECK

This aircraft.cfg would give you 3 different paint schemes using one set of CFS model.

Hope this helps....

No problem.  I hope it works out for you.  Been a long time since I played CFS.

Oops! Now the virtual cockpit doesn't work in the new textured plane.  :-[

I assume this is CFS1 we're talking about. The virtual cockpit is part of the visual model. These textures (P51Tex1.bmp & P51Tex2.bmp) are not usually repainted. Providing the repaint is aliased to the default panel the DVC gauges should work.

Is this a repaint of the default P51d? If so, are you using the default panel?

You can use a 3rd party panel if you wish providing you add the virtual cockpit entry to Panel.cfg. Copy this entry from here or direct from the default Panel.cfg. It will only work on the default P51d (or a repaint of it).

gauge16=P51d!Attitude,0,145,66,70,FORCE_TRANS
gauge17=P51d!Airspeed,189,9,67,67

PS. Also make sure the texture folders of your repaints contain copies of those 2 VC textures.
