Learjet 45 ?

Postby ludo62 » Fri Jul 30, 2004 9:43 am

Is it posible to repaint the default Learjet 45 model ??? When i try to open the files Lear_45_2_c , Lear45_c , Lear45_d and Lear45_t  it says drawing failed  When i attempt to open with paint i just get a white sheet . The only file i can access that even looks like they are textures is file Lear45_t1 , so i started to repaint the textures in this file but when i insert it it does show the extra variation but not the new texture ???Is there a special program to access those other 4 files or am i painting the right file ??? Whenever I looked in the texture folder of the other variation I saw that only the 4 files that I couldn't access where there and the one that I could open (the lear45_t1) was not there . Help wanted please  ::). Happy flying

You need to open (and convert them) with the DXTBMP utility by Martin Wright (check the design utilities page here at Simviation)

Basically, the FS bitmaps are in a different format than a straight bitmap, so as to take advantage of the eye candy features (transparency/reflectivity, etc).

I downloaded the DXTbmp and I converted the files to 24-bit bitmap, I then made a couple of "test" spots on the plane to see if it worked in the game. I started up the game and went to the plane and my variation, whenever the plane showed up it was only a bare greyish metallic paint on it. Do I have to save it as a different format??? Happy flying .

Have you converted the image back using DXTBmp? And have you added the repaint to the aircraft.cfg file?

Follow the tutorials on http://www.calclassic.com

In general:

Open the original texture with DXTBMP

From DXTBMP either save as a regular bitmap, or send directly to your pain program.

If you save from your paint program, use DXTBMP to reconvert the image to the original format.

If you return the changed image to DXTBMP, again, save in the oriignal format.

You're getting a gray image in FS, because FS does not like 24-bit bitmaps.

Thank you. I did convert it and put it in the aircraft.cfg file succesfully, I just did not know that you had to reconvert it. Happy flying .
