Overpainting details

Postby Poseidon » Tue May 25, 2004 4:23 am

Hi, I am trying to repaint the default FS2002 Cessna 172. I have tried Windows Paint and Corel PhotoPaint but the problem is about details (like part joints, screws) which are covered when I apply the new colour in the area. I am now thinking of using PhotoShop and involve some layers with controlled opacity so that I can add the colour in a new semi-transparent layer. I believe this will maintain keep visible the details but also the old colour (if not a white paintkit). Am I right in the above? Do you have anything better to suggest?
Thanks.

Hey Poseidon,

A way around this would be to create layer upon layer, starting with the base colour, then putting the rivets on the next layer, and the weathering on the next, varying the opacity from layer to layer, and so on and on.

Then, when your finished, you can save the image as a bmp, all the layers will then be merged as one :)

New Paint kits for most of the default aircraft have just been uploaded here in the past day or so. They make repainting the defaults alot easier. Take a look at them.

As for the layering thing, It is the only way to go. Things will look alot better and once you get used to it you will never go back to the other ways you used before.
