Do to do chrome

Postby N556EP » Wed Apr 28, 2004 2:10 pm

Let me see if i can explain this right.  I reaplinted a Gulfstream and before i did the repint the Clamshell Reversers where chrome, now it l0ooks like a ver very very Oxydizted metal, about a dark greay. How do i make them crome again? on what does it take to do chrome.  I have psp and all that stuff plus DXT BMP. So some help would be nice.

I assume this is for FS2002/4. There might be later ones around now but Step 6 of Garry J. Smith's repainting tute explains the basic principles. http://www.gjsmith.com/Tutorial/step_6.htm

First of all your shot doesn't show up. The path is case-sensitive. The file name is AAAA.JPG - not AAAA.jpg*

The repaint looks fine to me. If the chrome is not showing up as you want it try experimenting with the Alpha Channel. I forget if you need to make the chrome parts lighter or darker.

*PS. Oops. I see you fixed it.

the darker the alpha channel is the more reflective it is white = sod all reflection and black = shinier than a baboon's backside...sorry couldnt think of anything else lol

if you need help with alpha channels post back and i / we will explain how to add them

Yip, definitely sounds like an alpha channel problem.

yeah the alpha channels are removed when u finsh editing the texture in the program and save the textures. you need to reload the texture in dxtbmp and then send the alpha channel to editor... change the colour to a darkish grey then save and reload alpha channel in dxtbmp then save the whole lot as extended image. thats with the new version of dxtbmp anyways which is a lot simpler
