Hi Snake Eye. The latest version of DXTBmp will convert the CFS3 default textures. http://www.mnwright.btinternet.co.uk/index.htm
Otherwise I think the principle will be the same as for CFS2. I can't help more as I no longer have CFS3 installed.

Hi again Hagar. Which programme do you recomend so that I can simply repaint my own livery onto any aircraft. Cheers.

Hi Sam. It really depends on which sim you have. Also if you wish to repaint the defaults or 3rd party aircraft. The texture formats vary in each case. You will almost certainly find DXTBmp (mentioned above) useful to convert the textures for editing & back again to the appropriate format when they're finished. Then you will need a decent paint program/graphics editor to do the actual repainting. If you don't have anything suitable there are various excellent freeware graphics editors. Which one you choose will be your own preference.

After that the rest is down to your skill & experience with the graphics editor & editing the textures. ;)

Hagar, thanks for this great post.

Would there be away to sticky some of the better programs and tools to use for repainting?

I'm just getting into trying this myself, just doing tailcodes so I have to take baby steps  ;)
