What exactly does "DXT" stand for? ???

Direct X Texture? Nah can't be - can it? To be honest I haven't the faintest idea. ::)

I think is related to the mipmapped textures and the reflective alpha channel some a/cs do present nowadays, not sure, but it's somethin' like that

Well, I understand what its FOR, but I want to know is what the letters themselves actually stand for.  Its not really an important matter, just something I was wondering about.
